Mars Veterinary Health and the American Red Cross announced an expansion of their joint blood donation partnership, with three combined human and pet blood drives planned at BluePearl Pet Hospital locations across the United States.
The June events will take place in Arden Hills, Minnesota; Irvine, California; and Brentwood, Tennessee. BluePearl Pet Blood Bank teams will conduct pet donor screenings while the Red Cross hosts separate human blood drives at the same locations.
Mars Veterinary Health said the initiative is intended to address continued shortages of blood products in both veterinary and human healthcare. Eligible dogs and cats can donate blood every eight to 12 weeks through the BluePearl Pet Blood Bank program, which operates in 22 locations nationwide.
The organizations said pet owners attending the events will also receive emergency preparedness kits as part of National Pet Preparedness Month initiatives.
