The certification highlights Dechra’s commitment to advancing education and research in support of the human-animal bond worldwide.
As a Human-Animal Bond Certified Company, Dechra supports human-animal bond education for veterinary professionals, provides training for its workforce on the science of the bond, and contributes to the research efforts of the Human-Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI). “At Dechra, the powerful connection between people and animals is at the core of our mission,” said Laura Olsen, President, North America and Chief Marketing Officer. “This certification reinforces our belief that the human-animal bond improves lives on both ends of the leash — and equips veterinarians with educational tools to protect the bond every day.”
International Human-Animal Bond Day, observed annually on November 8, celebrates the mutually beneficial relationship between people and companion animals. Research shows that pet ownership supports healthy aging, reduces loneliness, lowers stress, and improves sleep quality and mental health. A HABRI survey found that 98% of pet owners worldwide report at least one health benefit from their pets, and 80% said they would be more likely to maintain their pet’s health if they better understood the science behind the bond.

The Human-Animal Bond Certification, offered jointly by HABRI and the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), provides veterinary professionals with evidence-based knowledge and practical tools to recognize and strengthen the human-animal bond in practice. Through a series of online modules, the certification explores the biological mechanisms of the bond, animal welfare, communication strategies, and clinical techniques that reinforce positive pet-owner relationships. Dechra employees will begin accessing certification training internally, with plans to extend access to veterinarians and clinics through NAVC’s Vetfolio in early 2026.
