  • IDEXX plans to integrate CoVet with its software, diagnostics and clinical decision-support offerings while continuing to support third-party ambient scribe integrations.

IDEXX Laboratories has acquired CoVetAI Inc., expanding the diagnostic company’s veterinary software portfolio with AI-powered tools designed to capture and organize clinical information throughout the patient care process.

CoVet provides ambient listening and clinical workflow software to independent veterinary practices and multipractice corporate groups. Its platform can transcribe consultations, automate SOAP notes and assist with treatment planning and client follow-up.

IDEXX said CoVet will become part of its software ecosystem while maintaining integrations with non-IDEXX practice management systems. IDEXX also plans to continue supporting other ambient scribe products and third-party integrations within its software environment.

Connecting AI With Diagnostics

The acquisition gives IDEXX another way to connect information generated during veterinary visits with its diagnostic, practice management and clinical decision-support products.

IDEXX said more than 10,000 clinics globally use its cloud-based practice management systems. The company’s existing AI and advanced analytics offerings include the IDEXX inVue Dx Cellular Analyzer, SediVue Dx Urine Sediment Analyzer, ProCyte One Hematology Analyzer, IDEXX DecisionIQ and IDEXX Web PACS Software.

By combining CoVet with those technologies and products such as the Vello Client Engagement Platform, IDEXX sees opportunities to make patient information more accessible before, during and after veterinary visits.

The company said deeper workflow integration could eventually surface relevant patient information at clinical decision points, support more personalized communication with clients and give veterinary teams additional capacity to see patients.

“CoVet brings leading workflow intelligence capabilities that complement our diagnostic and software ecosystem,” IDEXX President and CEO Mike Erickson said in announcing the acquisition.

CoVet Looks to Expand Its Reach

CoVet was developed as an AI-powered clinical copilot for veterinary professionals and is used by veterinary teams across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

CoVet co-founder and CEO Yannick Bloem said the company’s initial focus on clinical documentation represents one part of a broader opportunity to use AI to reduce administrative demands on veterinary professionals.

The acquisition is also expected to extend CoVet’s international reach. IDEXX said it plans to integrate the technology with IDEXX VetConnect PLUS and use CoVet to address workflow needs in markets where IDEXX does not currently offer its practice management systems.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
