Embark Adds DNA-Based Behavior Insights and Personalized Dog Training

Embark Veterinary has launched Behavior Insights & Training, an in-app feature that uses canine genetics to identify predispositions tied to 15 behavioral traits. The $39 upgrade also includes one year of personalized training through Dogo.
  • Embark’s new Behavior Insights feature connects canine genetics with 15 behavioral predispositions, including hyperactivity, separation anxiety and anxiety involving unfamiliar objects or other dogs.
  • The feature is available as an in-app upgrade for Embark Breed ID and Breed + Health customers.
  • Customers receive a personalized training plan based on their dog’s behavior insights through Embark’s partnership with dog-training platform Dogo.
  • The $39 upgrade includes one year of Dogo access at no additional cost.
  • Embark says the feature is intended to help owners better understand genetic tendencies that may contribute to their dogs’ behavior and use those insights to inform training.

Embark Veterinary has expanded its canine DNA platform with a new feature designed to help dog owners understand how genetics may contribute to their pets’ behavior.

Behavior Insights & Training translates a dog’s DNA results into 15 genetic behavior insights and combines those findings with a year of personalized training. The feature is available as an in-app upgrade to customers who have purchased Embark’s Breed ID or Breed + Health products.

The company said the insights cover genetic predispositions associated with behaviors including hyperactivity, separation anxiety, anxiety around unfamiliar objects or other dogs, and a tendency to become easily overwhelmed.

“Every dog owner knows the feeling of loving a dog whose habits don’t fully make sense to them,” Embark CEO Amish Desai said. “Behavior Insights gives pet parents a genetic starting point for understanding those habits, so training feels less like guesswork and more like working with their dog’s wiring instead of against it.”

Genetics paired with training

In addition to explaining potential genetic contributions to behavior, Embark is pairing the new feature with personalized training through Dogo, a dog-training platform available through the Embark app.

Customers receive a one-year guided training plan informed by their dog’s Behavior Insights. According to Embark, Dogo is used by more than 12 million dog owners, and more than 8 in 10 users have reported behavior improvements within two weeks.

The combination is intended to move beyond generalized advice based primarily on breed and instead provide owners with training recommendations informed by their individual dog’s genetic tendencies.

Available as a $39 upgrade

Behavior Insights is available for $39 through the Embark app and includes one year of Dogo access at no additional charge.

Founded in 2015 by brothers Adam and Ryan Boyko, Embark Veterinary provides canine DNA testing covering breed, health and ancestry. The company also uses data generated through its testing platform to support canine health research and is an official research partner of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
