Net sales increased 2.3% to $4.54 billion for the quarter ended June 27, 2026, compared with $4.44 billion in the prior-year period. The increase was driven by new store openings, partially offset by a 1.5% decline in comparable store sales. Comparable transaction counts decreased 1.7%, while average ticket increased 0.2%. The company said comparable sales were positive in April and June but declined in May due to weaker performance in seasonal and discretionary merchandise categories.
Earnings Impacted by Petsense Restructuring and VIP Petcare Acquisition
Gross profit increased 2.6% to $1.68 billion, with gross margin improving to 37.1% from 36.9% in the prior-year quarter. Results included a $5.9 million inventory write-down related to the planned closure of approximately 75 Petsense stores. On an adjusted basis, gross margin increased to 37.2%.
Selling, general and administrative expenses increased 14.4% to $1.22 billion.
