The Farmer’s Dog is expanding its investment in veterinary education through a new partnership with the University of Georgia (UGA) College of Veterinary Medicine, funding a three-year Small Animal Clinical Nutrition Residency designed to train the next generation of Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionists®.
The residency provides graduate veterinarians with advanced clinical training and research experience under the mentorship of Jackie Parr, DVM, MSc, DACVIM (Nutrition), and Joseph Bartges, DVM, PhD, DACVIM. Graduates of the program will be eligible to pursue board certification through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Addressing a shortage of veterinary nutrition specialists
Clinical nutrition residency positions remain limited across veterinary medicine, making industry support increasingly important for expanding the specialty workforce.
According to UGA, the new funding will allow the college to reach a milestone by having three nutrition residents training simultaneously for the first time.

Continuing investment in veterinary nutrition research
The residency marks The Farmer’s Dog’s second university-sponsored nutrition residency and is part of the company’s broader investment in veterinary education and nutrition science.
The company has previously supported research examining healthy aging, metabolism, hydration and urinary health in dogs. It also recently reported findings from a company-supported study evaluating metabolic health markers in dogs fed its fresh-food diets.
