Organic Payment Gateways has announced an expanded credit card processing service for veterinary telemedicine practices across the United States, positioning the offering as a solution for clinics facing payment disruptions or account shutdowns tied to virtual care services.
The company said many mainstream payment processors categorize veterinary telemedicine as “high-risk” due to the prevalence of card-not-present transactions, recurring billing models, prescription fulfillment, and varying state regulations surrounding the veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR). These factors can result in frozen funds, delayed payments, or terminated merchant accounts for virtual clinics.
Addressing Telemedicine Payment Risks
According to Organic Payment Gateways, the new service combines tele-veterinary-specific merchant accounts with payment gateways commonly used in veterinary and e-commerce systems. The company said each account undergoes underwriting specifically for veterinary telehealth operations in an effort to reduce the likelihood of unexpected account reviews or service interruptions.
“I’ve seen it happen way too often. A clinic builds up months of telehealth business, then one morning they get an email from their payment gateway and their account is shut down,” said Alex Roy, owner of Organic Payment Gateways, in the announcement. “We want to get ahead of that for our vet clients, so no one has to clean up the mess after the fact.”
The company stated the system integrates with platforms including WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Shopify, Wix, and Webflow, while also supporting veterinary practice information management software (PIMS) such as Cornerstone, Avimark, and Vetspire. Additional features include online invoicing, virtual terminals for phone payments, and card-on-file payment storage.
Telehealth Growth Continues
Organic Payment Gateways said the veterinary telemedicine market continues to expand across areas such as tele-triage, behavioral consultations, follow-up care, preventive medicine, livestock remote monitoring, and prescription renewals.
The company also emphasized customer support as part of the service offering, noting that clinics are assigned U.S.-based specialists rather than automated onboarding systems.
“Vets didn’t sign up to become payment processing experts, and honestly, they shouldn’t have to be,” Roy said. “If a clinic calls us early on Monday morning or late on a Friday afternoon, they get a person, not a ticket number.”
Organic Payment Gateways works with businesses operating in regulated and high-risk industries, including veterinary telehealth, telemedicine, supplements, and online pharmacy services.
