  • Nick Christensen will become Chief Executive Officer of Phillips Pet Food & Supplies effective July 27.
  • Longtime CEO Blaine Phillips will transition to Executive Chairman after leading the company for decades.
  • Phillips said the move is the culmination of a multi-year succession plan designed to ensure leadership continuity.
  • Christensen previously served as President and has led operational, supply chain and customer service initiatives since joining the company in 2021.
  • Blaine Phillips will remain actively involved in strategy, board governance and key customer, vendor and investor relationships.

Phillips Pet Food & Supplies has announced a planned leadership transition that will see President Nick Christensen succeed Blaine Phillips as chief executive officer later this month.

Effective July 27, Christensen will assume the CEO role, while Phillips will become Executive Chairman, where he will continue to guide the company’s long-term strategy, board governance and relationships with key customers, vendors and investors.

Planned succession years in the making

The company said the executive transition is the result of a long-term succession strategy developed by its board of directors and senior leadership team to maintain business continuity while positioning Phillips for continued growth.

As Executive Chairman, Phillips will remain one of the company’s largest investors alongside Central Garden & Pet and majority shareholder Axar Capital, reinforcing his ongoing commitment to the distributor’s future direction.

Christensen to lead next phase of growth

Christensen joined Phillips in 2021 as Senior Vice President of Operations before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer and later President.

During his tenure, he has led initiatives focused on strengthening operations, enhancing supply chain efficiency, expanding distribution capabilities and improving customer service. Before joining Phillips, Christensen held leadership positions with C&S Wholesale Grocers and United Natural Foods, Inc.

According to the company, Christensen will now oversee Phillips’ next phase of growth while building on the operational improvements and strategic investments made in recent years.

Blaine Phillips shifts to strategic leadership

Phillips has spent more than 40 years with the family-founded business, helping transform it from a regional feed store into one of the nation’s leading distributors of pet food and supplies. He also played a key role in establishing the company’s strategic joint venture with Central Garden & Pet, which expanded the company’s national distribution capabilities.

In his new role, Phillips said he will concentrate on the company’s long-term vision while supporting Christensen and the executive leadership team as Phillips continues to grow its relationships with customers, vendors and industry partners.
