  • Elanco Animal Health matched the contribution dollar for dollar, bringing the total donation to $14,088.
  • Based on The Street Dog Coalition’s estimated 2026 average cost of $116 per pet, the contribution could support veterinary care for more than 120 animals.
  • The Street Dog Coalition operates in more than 60 U.S. locations, providing free preventive veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness.
  • The initiative reflects TVC’s commitment to community engagement and highlights collaboration between independent veterinary practices, animal health companies and nonprofit organizations.

The Veterinary Cooperative (TVC) and Elanco Animal Health have donated a combined $14,088 to The Street Dog Coalition, a nonprofit organization providing free veterinary care to pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness.

The contribution follows TVC’s second annual Paws for a Cause: Bingo Night fundraiser, held during TVC VetVision 2026 in Columbus, Ohio.

TVC, a member-owned cooperative representing independent veterinary practices across the United States, raised $7,044 through the event. Elanco Animal Health matched the amount, doubling the total contribution.

The funds will support The Street Dog Coalition’s efforts to deliver accessible veterinary services through volunteer-led clinics and partnerships with community organizations.

Donation Expected to Support Care for More Than 120 Pets

The Street Dog Coalition provides free preventive veterinary care to pets whose owners are experiencing homelessness, addressing barriers that can prevent these animals from receiving routine medical attention.

According to the organization, the average cost of providing care to one pet in 2026 was approximately $116.

Based on that figure, the combined $14,088 contribution from TVC and Elanco could help fund veterinary services for more than 120 pets.

The nonprofit operates in more than 60 locations throughout the United States, using volunteer veterinary teams to provide care through pop-up street clinics and community partnerships.

Services include preventive veterinary care, with participating organizations helping connect pets and their owners to additional resources when needed.

In a statement, The Street Dog Coalition expressed appreciation for the partnership and emphasized the importance of continued financial support for its volunteer-based programs.

The organization said the contribution will help its teams continue providing veterinary care while supporting the human–animal bond among people experiencing housing insecurity.

Supporting Animal and Human Health Through a One Health Approach

The Street Dog Coalition’s programs are based on a One Health approach, recognizing the connections between animal health, human well-being and community health.

For individuals experiencing homelessness, pets can provide companionship, emotional support and stability during periods of significant uncertainty.

However, limited financial resources and barriers to accessing veterinary services can make routine preventive care difficult to obtain.

By bringing veterinary services directly to communities, The Street Dog Coalition seeks to reduce those barriers while helping preserve relationships between pets and their owners.

Its model relies on veterinarians, veterinary technicians, volunteers and community partners who collaborate to provide services in accessible settings.

The organization’s programs also emphasize the broader health and welfare benefits associated with maintaining the human–animal bond.

Elanco Matches Fundraising Contribution

Elanco Animal Health participated in the initiative by matching the funds raised during TVC’s Paws for a Cause event.

The company said its involvement reflects a broader commitment to supporting animal welfare organizations, shelters and community veterinary clinics.

“We know real impact happens locally — alongside organizations caring for pets every day,” Elanco said in a statement.

The company noted that partnerships with organizations such as The Street Dog Coalition can help expand access to vaccines, preventive care, treatment and other support services for animals and families that might otherwise go without care.

Elanco operates globally in the animal health sector, developing and marketing veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines and other products for companion animals and livestock.

Cooperative Model Extends Support Beyond Veterinary Practices

For TVC, the fundraiser represents an application of the cooperative principle known as Concern for Community, one of seven principles guiding cooperative organizations.

The principle emphasizes the responsibility of cooperatives to contribute to the well-being and sustainable development of the communities they serve.

TVC said the Paws for a Cause initiative brought together cooperative shareholders, veterinary professionals, employees and industry partners around a shared animal welfare objective.

The organization supports independently owned veterinary hospitals through collective purchasing arrangements, educational opportunities and industry partnerships.

According to TVC, its cooperative structure enables participating practices to maintain independent ownership while benefiting from shared resources and collaboration.

The partnership with Elanco and The Street Dog Coalition illustrates how those relationships can also support charitable initiatives beyond the cooperative’s member practices.

Expanding Access to Veterinary Care

The contribution comes amid continued efforts by nonprofit veterinary organizations to address gaps in access to animal health services for underserved populations.

Programs such as The Street Dog Coalition’s volunteer-led clinics provide an alternative pathway to basic veterinary care for pet owners who may face financial, transportation or housing-related barriers.

By combining fundraising support from independent veterinary practices with contributions from an animal health manufacturer, the initiative provides additional resources for community-based veterinary services.

TVC and Elanco’s combined donation will support The Street Dog Coalition’s ongoing work to provide preventive care and maintain the health and well-being of pets living alongside people experiencing homelessness.
