Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and VetRec have partnered to deploy AI-powered clinical documentation tools throughout the university’s Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC).
The teaching hospital, which treats more than 25,000 cases annually, will use VetRec to assist with medical notes, discharge instructions and record summaries. The rollout includes the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital, Large Animal Hospital and Equine Field Services.
“Our teams evaluated this technology carefully, and VetRec stood out for its exceptional quality and the team’s willingness to work with us and our proprietary systems,” said Dr. Chad Brown, executive director of LVMC.
The deployment follows an evaluation and pilot conducted across the medical center’s small animal, large animal and equine services. VetRec also worked with Iowa State’s clinical information systems staff to develop a workflow tailored to the university’s electronic medical record system.
In addition to supporting clinicians, the partnership will give Iowa State veterinary students, interns and residents access to AI documentation technology during their clinical training.
The university said the technology is intended to reduce time spent on administrative documentation while providing clinicians more time for patient care and teaching.
