The Veterinary Angel Network for Entrepreneurs (VANE) has invested in PawPay, a veterinary fintech company developing a platform that enables pet insurance claims to be processed at the point of care. The investment will support PawPay’s commercial expansion as it works to simplify insurance payments for veterinary practices and insured pet owners.

  • VANE announced PawPay as its newest portfolio company following investments from its members.
  • PawPay enables veterinary hospitals to receive payment directly from pet insurance providers, allowing insured clients to pay only their deductible and coinsurance during the visit.
  • The platform manages coverage verification, claims submission, insurer reimbursement, and payment processing while paying clinics immediately.
  • PawPay is onboarding veterinary practices and expanding integrations with insurance carriers as it prepares for broader market growth.

Veterinary Angel Network for Entrepreneurs (VANE) has added PawPay to its investment portfolio, backing a company focused on modernizing how pet insurance payments are handled in veterinary medicine.

PawPay’s platform is designed to shift insured pet owners away from the traditional reimbursement model, in which clients pay the full cost of care upfront before submitting claims to their insurance provider. Instead, the company verifies insurance coverage, collects the owner’s deductible and coinsurance, pays the veterinary clinic directly, and manages reimbursement with the insurance carrier.

According to VANE Co-Founder Peter Glassman, DVM, the approach addresses a longstanding challenge for insured pet owners while also benefiting veterinary hospitals and insurers through faster payments and a more streamlined claims process.

Unlike financing products that extend credit to pet owners, PawPay’s platform is intended to leverage existing insurance benefits rather than create new debt. For veterinary teams, the workflow requires only an invoice and medical record submission from the practice management system, with PawPay handling the remaining administrative processes, including claims management and reimbursement.

David Franklin, co-founder and CEO of PawPay, said the company’s goal is to reduce financial barriers at the time veterinary care is delivered. He added that support from VANE members brings industry expertise that will help the company expand relationships with veterinary practices and insurance providers.

Expanding Commercial Partnerships

PawPay said it is currently onboarding veterinary practices while building deeper integrations with pet insurance carriers to support broader commercial deployment. The company noted that its patent-pending platform is fully functional and that it continues to develop partnerships across the companion animal healthcare ecosystem.

VANE said it expects to support PawPay’s continued growth as demand for pet insurance and digital payment solutions continues to increase within companion animal practice.
