VetHubRx and healthcare technology company Buzz Health have announced a partnership that brings real-time prescription discount pricing directly into the veterinary e-prescribing process, allowing veterinary teams and pet owners to compare available savings before prescriptions are sent to retail pharmacies.
The integration incorporates Buzz Health’s RxCompare® pricing platform into VetHubRx’s prescribing workflow, enabling providers to identify available prescription discounts at the point of care while giving pet owners greater visibility into medication costs before arriving at the pharmacy.
Addressing out-of-pocket medication costs
The companies said the collaboration is designed to help address one of the veterinary industry’s ongoing challenges: most pet prescriptions are paid out of pocket because relatively few pets are covered by insurance plans that include pharmacy benefits.
The partnership focuses on human-equivalent medications commonly prescribed for companion animals and filled through retail pharmacies. Buzz Health’s SmartBIN® technology automatically routes prescriptions through a network of discount programs to identify the lowest available eligible price without requiring additional action from the veterinarian, pharmacist or pet owner.
Bringing price transparency into prescribing
According to the companies, embedding discount pricing directly into the prescribing workflow allows veterinarians to discuss medication costs with pet owners before prescriptions are filled, reducing unexpected expenses at the pharmacy counter and helping improve prescription adherence.
VetHubRx, a standalone veterinary e-prescribing platform, electronically transmits prescriptions to retail pharmacies nationwide and also provides pet owners with digital tools for prescription management and refills.
Expanding veterinary pharmacy technology
The integration represents Buzz Health’s first partnership with a veterinary e-prescribing platform and expands the company’s prescription savings technology into the animal health market.
Buzz Health said its platform currently supports prescription access across thousands of retail pharmacies and continues to expand through integrations with e-prescribing systems, electronic medical records and enterprise healthcare partners.
