Peer-Reviewed Study Adds Clinical Evidence for PetVivo’s Spryng® in Canine Osteoarthritis

PetVivo Holdings has announced the publication of a peer-reviewed clinical study evaluating its Spryng® with OsteoCushion® Technology in Veterinary Record, adding to the published evidence supporting the company’s intra-articular biomaterial for canine joint disease.

The prospective proof-of-concept study examined the use of Spryng® in 40 client-owned dogs diagnosed with stifle osteoarthritis and suspected cranial cruciate disease. Each dog received a single intra-articular injection and was followed for 84 days using clinical examinations, pain assessments, clinician evaluations, and owner-reported outcomes.

Study findings

According to the published study, 55% of enrolled dogs achieved at least a 25% improvement in the modified Glasgow Composite Pain Scale (mGCPS), the study’s primary endpoint.

Investigators also reported statistically significant improvements across additional clinician- and owner-assessed subjective outcome measures during the study period.

The authors concluded that the collagen-elastin hydrogel microparticulate biomaterial demonstrated feasibility for use in dogs with suspected cranial cruciate disease and stifle osteoarthritis. However, they also noted that additional studies incorporating objective outcome measures are needed to further evaluate the technology.

Expanding the evidence base

PetVivo said the publication represents its third peer-reviewed scientific paper evaluating Spryng® with OsteoCushion® Technology.

The study was conducted by investigators from multiple U.S. veterinary specialty referral hospitals, including Ethos Veterinary Health, Bridger Veterinary Specialists, Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center, Bulger Veterinary Hospital, and Veterinary Specialty Hospital San Diego. According to the published manuscript, the study was funded by PetVivo and subsequently accepted for publication following independent peer review.

Spryng® is a veterinarian-administered intra-articular medical device composed of collagen and elastin extracellular matrix microparticles and is intended for the management of pain and lameness associated with non-infectious joint conditions in companion animals.
