ASPCA Commits $14 Million to Expand Spay/Neuter Access and Support Animal Shelters

The ASPCA has announced $14 million in grant funding for animal shelters and spay/neuter providers nationwide, aiming to address shelter overcrowding, veterinary workforce shortages and limited access to affordable sterilization services.
  • ASPCA is providing $14 million in grants to shelters and spay/neuter organizations.
  • Funding is intended to address shelter capacity challenges and expand access to affordable spay/neuter services.
  • The initiative will support shelter infrastructure, operations and surgical capacity.
  • Applications are open through June 26.

The ASPCA has launched a $14 million grant program to support animal shelters and spay/neuter service providers across the United States as organizations continue to face capacity constraints, staffing shortages and growing demand for veterinary services.

According to the organization, the funding will help shelters improve operations and infrastructure while expanding access to high-quality, affordable spay/neuter procedures aimed at reducing future shelter intake.

The ASPCA cited ongoing challenges throughout the sheltering sector, including overcrowding, veterinary workforce shortages and increasing numbers of animals requiring medical or behavioral care. Data from Shelter Animals Count indicate that only about one-quarter of dogs and cats entering shelters are already spayed or neutered.

Grant applications are open through June 26, with funding available for shelter improvement projects, operational support and efforts to increase spay/neuter capacity.

Since 2001, the ASPCA says it has distributed more than $250 million in grant funding to animal welfare organizations nationwide.
