JustFoodForDogs has appointed pet industry veteran Michael Meyer as chief executive officer, marking a leadership transition for the fresh pet food company as it continues to expand its position in the human-grade nutrition segment.

Meyer succeeds Eric Kufel, who is stepping down from the role for personal health reasons and plans to pursue board and advisory opportunities.

Returning to a Familiar Brand

Meyer brings nearly 20 years of experience building premium consumer and pet brands. Since 2022, he has served as CEO of I and love and you, a natural dog and cat food company. His previous leadership experience includes roles with Wellness Pet Company, Lily’s Kitchen, Restoration Hardware, and Plum Organics.

The appointment also represents a return to JustFoodForDogs, where Meyer served on the company’s board following L Catterton’s initial investment in 2017.

In announcing the move, Meyer highlighted the continued momentum in the fresh pet food category and the company’s focus on transparency, innovation, and science-backed nutrition.

Leadership Transition

Kufel said he was proud of the company’s recent progress, including product innovation, retail expansion, and strengthening relationships with consumers and channel partners.

L Catterton Partner Matt Lischick credited Kufel with helping accelerate growth across wholesale and digital channels and said Meyer’s experience and familiarity with the business position him well to lead the next phase of expansion.
