Elanco Animal Health has announced the launch of the Advantage Collar for Dogs, a new over‑the‑counter product designed to provide long‑lasting protection against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.

The collar delivers four months of continuous protection through a time‑release formula that gradually distributes active ingredients. According to the company, this allows dog owners to replace the collar roughly three times per year to maintain year‑round parasite protection.

The product is designed for dogs and puppies 12 weeks of age and older and features an adjustable collar that can fit dogs of various sizes.

Bobby Modi, executive vice president of U.S. pet health and global digital transformation at Elanco, said the new product expands the company’s retail parasite protection portfolio and builds on the 25‑year history of the Advantage brand.

Addressing year‑round parasite risks

Fleas and ticks can remain active year‑round, including during colder months, making consistent parasite prevention important for dogs.

The Advantage Collar for Dogs is designed to kill and repel fleas and ticks while also repelling mosquitoes. The collar contains pyriproxyfen, an insect growth regulator that disrupts the flea life cycle and helps prevent reinfestation.

Ticks can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, while fleas may carry parasites such as tapeworms.

Dr. Casey Locklear, parasiticide lead at Elanco, said pet owners should consider year‑round flea and tick protection as part of routine pet health management.

Retail availability

The Advantage Collar for Dogs is available through pet specialty stores, grocery retailers, dollar stores and mass retailers.

The suggested retail price is under $25, although final pricing may vary by retailer.

Elanco says the product provides pet owners with an accessible over‑the‑counter option for parasite protection as parasite activity increases during warmer months.
