Zoetis has announced a definitive agreement to acquire VitalRADS, a veterinary teleradiology services provider, as the company continues expanding its diagnostics business beyond in-clinic testing and reference laboratory services.
Expanding diagnostic capabilities
The acquisition builds on a strategic partnership established between the two companies in 2025 and would bring VitalRADS’ specialist imaging network, cloud-based technology, and AI-enabled workflow tools into Zoetis’ Global Diagnostics portfolio.
VitalRADS provides around-the-clock access to board-certified veterinary radiologists and other specialists who interpret digital radiographs, CT scans, MRI studies, ECGs, and additional imaging modalities across more than 25 animal species. The platform offers same-day reporting, including two-hour STAT interpretations for urgent cases.
Beyond teleradiology, the company operates mobile ultrasound services in the Greater Houston and Greater Seattle markets, an outpatient diagnostic imaging center in Cypress, Texas, and VitalPACS, a cloud-based picture archiving and communication system (PACS) that integrates directly with veterinary medical record platforms.
According to Zoetis, VitalRADS supports more than 1,800 veterinary customers, including independent practices, corporate hospital groups, and universities, while also serving as an American College of Veterinary Radiology-certified residency program.
Supporting the Virtual Reference Laboratory
Zoetis said the acquisition advances its strategy of creating an end-to-end Virtual Reference Laboratory that combines board-certified specialists, artificial intelligence, and diagnostic technologies to provide veterinarians with faster and more comprehensive clinical decision support.
The company said VitalRADS’ AI-assisted workflows include automated draft radiology reports generated from dictated findings, along with quality assurance tools that compare AI-generated interpretations with specialist assessments to help improve consistency and reporting efficiency.
These capabilities are expected to complement Zoetis’ existing Vetscan Imagyst® and Vetscan Opticell™ diagnostic platforms, which provide AI-supported diagnostic testing at the point of care.
Leadership comments
Jamie Brannan, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Zoetis, said the addition of VitalRADS would strengthen the company’s diagnostics ecosystem by expanding access to veterinary specialists while supporting future growth opportunities.
VitalRADS Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Brian Poteet said joining Zoetis represents an important milestone for the company and will allow the organization to continue advancing diagnostic solutions while maintaining its commitment to veterinary customers.
Transaction timeline
Zoetis expects to work closely with VitalRADS and its customers throughout the integration process. The acquisition is anticipated to close during the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed.
