- Odie and Haven announced a partnership to expand pet insurance distribution through multifamily housing operators and animal shelters.
- Haven recently launched a collaboration that could reach approximately 1.2 million apartment residents nationwide.
- The companies aim to increase adoption of pet insurance at a time when veterinary costs continue to rise.
- Haven has also launched a shelter partnership program that includes donations to participating rescue organizations.
- Industry stakeholders view broader insurance adoption as a way to improve compliance with recommended veterinary care and reduce financial barriers to treatment.
Pet insurance provider Odie and insurtech company Haven Pet Insurance have partnered to expand access to pet health coverage through apartment communities, animal shelters, and other high-trust channels where pet owners are already making care decisions.
The companies say the collaboration is designed to address one of the largest challenges facing the pet insurance sector: low adoption rates. Despite growing demand for veterinary care and increasing treatment costs, only a small percentage of U.S. pets are currently insured.
Supporting Access to Veterinary Care
For veterinary teams, broader pet insurance adoption may help reduce financial barriers that can delay diagnostics, treatments, and preventive care recommendations. Industry advocates have long argued that insurance can improve client compliance by making unexpected veterinary expenses more manageable and allowing pet owners to pursue recommended care plans.
The partnership focuses on introducing insurance at key decision points, including pet adoption and moves into pet-friendly housing communities.
“Haven’s distribution model helps bring Odie’s insurance capabilities to a highly qualified audience of pet parents who want to ensure they can care for their pets when it matters most,” said Miles Thorson, CEO and co-founder of Odie.
Expanding Distribution Beyond Traditional Channels
As part of the initiative, Haven recently launched a collaboration with a major multifamily property management platform that will make pet insurance offerings available to approximately 1.2 million residents nationwide.
The company has also launched a shelter partnership program currently operating with two animal welfare organizations. The program includes financial support for participating shelters through donations tied to enrollments.
According to Haven founder and CEO Lauren de Leon, the company was built around the belief that insurance adoption depends largely on when and where coverage is introduced to pet owners.
By embedding insurance options into housing and adoption experiences, the companies hope to increase awareness and enrollment in a category that remains significantly underpenetrated despite continued growth in veterinary spending.
