- Prodogi introduced a dissolvable oral health strip designed to coat the entire oral cavity as it dissolves.
- The company says the product provides broader oral coverage than chews, powders, and water additives.
- In a company-sponsored clinical study, Prodogi reported improvements in breath odor and reductions in oral bacteria compared with a widely used dental supplement.
- The technology uses liposomal encapsulation and slow-release delivery to extend ingredient contact time in the mouth.
- The product was developed by veterinary surgeon and Prodogi co-founder Dr. Steve Mehler.
Prodogi, a veterinarian-founded pet health company, has launched a dissolvable oral health strip for dogs that it says addresses limitations associated with traditional at-home dental care products. The strip is designed to slowly dissolve in the mouth, allowing active ingredients to contact teeth, gums, and oral soft tissues that may be difficult to reach with conventional delivery formats.
The company says the product represents a new approach to canine oral care, a category where compliance challenges and incomplete coverage have long limited effectiveness.
Company Reports Positive Clinical Results
According to Prodogi, a company-sponsored clinical study compared the strip with one of the most widely used dental supplements for dogs. The company reported that dogs receiving the strip experienced an 80% reduction in volatile sulfur compounds, a marker associated with oral bacteria and bad breath, within 14 days.
Prodogi also reported 41% greater breath improvement, a 25% greater reduction in plaque-associated bacteria, and improved performance on hard-to-reach teeth compared with the comparator product.
The study details, including methodology, sample size, and publication status, were not disclosed in the announcement.
Delivery Technology Designed for Extended Contact
The oral health strip uses a slow-dissolve delivery mechanism intended to increase contact time between active ingredients and oral tissues. Once placed in the dog’s mouth, the strip adheres to moist surfaces and gradually dissolves.
Active ingredients are incorporated into liposomal capsules designed to provide controlled release over time. According to the company, the combination of extended contact time and broader oral distribution helps address limitations seen with products that only contact specific areas of the mouth.
Addressing Canine Periodontal Disease
Dr. Steve Mehler, co-founder of Prodogi and a veterinary surgeon with more than two decades of clinical and research experience, said periodontal disease remains one of the most common health conditions affecting dogs.
The company noted that many pet owners do not regularly brush their dogs’ teeth and argues that easier-to-administer preventive products could help improve adherence to oral care routines.
Prodogi manufactures the product in the United States and sells it directly to consumers through its website. The company recommends one strip daily for dogs weighing 65 pounds or less and two strips daily for dogs weighing more than 65 pounds.
