Raaw Energy Expands Dog Food Recall Over Potential Listeria Contamination

Raw pet food manufacturer Raaw Energy has expanded its voluntary recall of frozen dog food products following concerns over potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, with affected products distributed across nine Northeastern states.

Summary

  • Raaw Energy expanded a voluntary recall involving frozen raw dog food products
  • Recall affects products produced between July 2025 and December 2025, plus one March 2026 batch
  • Some finished products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes
  • Products were distributed in CT, DE, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NY, PA, and VA
  • Company says it is temporarily halting production to implement sanitation and testing upgrades

Raaw Energy has expanded its recall of frozen raw dog food products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to an FDA-posted company announcement.

The recall includes numerous raw dog food formulations packaged in 2-pound and 5-pound plastic tubes sold primarily through direct customer pickup orders. The affected products were manufactured between July 17, 2025, and Dec. 23, 2025, with an additional affected batch dated March 31, 2026.

According to the company, testing conducted through the New Jersey Department of Agriculture identified Listeria monocytogenes in some finished product samples, although not all lots were tested. The company said the expanded recall is being conducted “out of an abundance of caution.”

Human and Animal Health Risks

The FDA noted that both pets and humans may become infected through exposure to contaminated food or contaminated surfaces such as bowls, utensils, and countertops.

Potential symptoms in humans include nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, muscle aches, and severe neurological complications in high-risk cases. Pets may show symptoms including lethargy, diarrhea, fever, or loss of appetite, although some infected animals may remain asymptomatic carriers.

Production Halt and Corrective Actions

Raaw Energy said it is temporarily suspending all dog food production beginning May 21, 2026, while implementing corrective actions at its facility. Planned upgrades include expanded sanitation procedures, drain and sewer line cleaning, resurfacing of production areas, and installation of pathogen detection systems with batch-level testing.

The company advised consumers not to use or distribute affected products and to dispose of them securely to prevent exposure to people or animals.
