Nestlé Purina PetCare celebrated the 25th anniversary of Purina Cares Day with employee volunteer projects taking place across communities throughout the United States.

According to the company, thousands of employees participated in volunteer activities on May 21, contributing an estimated 5,000 hours of service focused on supporting pets, people, and environmental initiatives in communities where Purina operates.

Purina said volunteer activities included animal shelter renovations, mobile food distribution events, personal care kit assembly and delivery, riverway cleanups, outdoor beautification projects, and support for organizations serving pets and people in crisis.

Focus on Community and Pet Welfare

The annual service initiative supports a range of nonprofit organizations, including pet welfare agencies, foodbanks, service and therapy dog groups, and community-focused nonprofits.

“For 25 years, Purina employees have come together to strengthen our communities by supporting pets, people and the planet on Purina Cares Day,” said Nina Leigh Krueger, CEO and president of Purina. “The growth of this event and the positive impact we’re able to make each year is a direct reflection of our employees’ desire to give back.”

Purina noted that the milestone coincides with the 100th anniversary of Dog Chow in 2026, which the company described as part of its long-standing commitment to pet health and nutrition.

The company stated it contributes more than $30 million annually in financial and in-kind support to pet-related and community nonprofit organizations nationwide. Over the past five years, Purina said it has contributed more than $150 million toward organizations focused on pet welfare, community support, and strengthening the human-animal bond.

Purina manufactures several major pet care brands including Purina ONE, Pro Plan, Friskies, and Tidy Cats, and employs more than 11,000 associates across the United States.
